Our services include: data engineering, data science, digital and creative services/media buying and market research.

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Controller to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance, and contributing to strategic decision-making.

About The Role

Reporting to the VP Operations, the Financial Controller is a critical position that will play a key role in our agency’s operations. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong grasp of financial management, meticulous attention to detail, and an ability to work well under pressure. The successful candidate must be comfortable with both high-level oversight and actively engaging in day-to-day financial activities.

The successful candidate will work with various staff across the company including but not limited to the Fractional CFO, President, and VP Operations to manage and improve the internal control environment of the company. The candidate will also work with the outsourced bookkeeping firm to ensure bookkeeping is accurate with the long-term view of bringing the entire finance function in-house and hiring a team.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with Canadian accounting standards.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop, manage, and monitor budgets. Provide insightful financial forecasts and projections.
  • Cash Flow Management: Oversee cash flow management and optimize management of media buying activities with multi currency implications. Optimize cash flow through effective receivables and payables management.
  • Internal Controls: Establish and maintain effective internal controls across the organization and ensure adherence to company policies and procedures. Develop and update financial policies and procedures and create where there are none.
  • Financial Analysis: Develop financial models to support decision-making. Identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
  • Cost Management: Monitor and control costs to optimize financial performance and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Job Management: Oversee the Client billing process and job reconciliations.
  • Compliance and Tax Reporting: Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations such as CRA, Ministry of Quebec, WSIB, EHT, and other filings (i.e. pay equity, SR&ED).
  • Payroll Management: Oversee the Finance Administrator’s work regarding payroll processing and compliance.
  • Financial Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks and develop risk management strategies.
  • Special Projects: Participate in various special projects and the continuous improvement of company processes.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in financial management and cash flow
  • Experience within the marketing & communications industry is an asset.
  • Proven track record of building relationships and establishing credibility with internal customers and management.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards and regulations.
  • Experience with Excel, Google Workspace, Xero, Dext, Expensify, Payworks, +
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and leadership abilities.
  • Bilingual (English and French) with an ability to effectively communicate in English amongst our International Stakeholders
